Baby #6, Declan, was born Sunday morning at almost sunrise, after 12 days of prodromal labor and an awesome 12 minutes of pushing! We had planned a water birth at home, and successfully pulled it off, making Declan the 5th Davidsson baby born at home, and 3rd water baby! His siblings woke up an hour later to the sound of “new baby meowing sounds” and were ecstatic to finally get to meet their new little bubby! At 9 pounds 10 ounces, Declan is my biggest baby by far, and has this whole nursing thing DOWN! Today was his first babywearing experience so I could video tape his oldest brother’s birthday cake and singing (Eli turned 8 today and said that his baby brother was his BEST present!) and I chose a Sakura Bloom LINEN RING SLING in Blackberry to wear! Declan was swaddled in a light muslin blanket aready so I popped the entire baby burrito upright into the sling with his head nice and high – close enough to kiss – and the tail wrapped around the rings just in case Baby Declan slipped a bit in the sling.
How long have I waited for that first magical babywearing moment?

Where has the time gone? Have the last few months flown by for you as they have for me? I can’t believe that in just 11 weeks – give or take a few days! – I will have on of these for myself! A brand new, squishy baby, to have and to hold, to comfort and to gaze upon, to amaze and be amazed by, to wallow in the joy, and triumph in every success! Now I’m getting sappy, but truly, I couldn’t be more excited!

Since the birth of my first baby, all family portraits at my house seem to feature my favorite-at-the-time baby carrier! Whether it’s because I babywear all day long – I do! – or because I feel like my carriers are part of the family – absolutely! – or because a family photograph wouldn’t even be happening without the help of my trusty rusty carrier – probably not! most of the pictures of me have baby carriers in them! At first, it was my home made ring slings, thanks, Mom! At around Baby #4, I settled into my happy Soft Structured Carrier routine, and my Becos became an integral element of our photos! When Baby #5 was just a little guy, we jet setted off on our whirlwind tour of New Zealand and Australia taking only, gasp!, 4 carriers so the same ones were pictured frequently! Branching back out again for Baby #6, I venture to guess that more BabyHawks, O&As, and Wrapstars will be gracing the pages of my photo albums since my stash has grown incredibly since we returned home!
PS! Auckland, New Zealand is WINDY!!! Can you tell?

Ever heard that expression? No, it doesn’t mean to kiss your baby because they smell so good! It means don’t put them in stroller and push them away from you! Keep your little one close enough to hear your their gentle breathing, to touch their tiny hands, and to kiss anytime anyplace! And the only way to do that and keep your hands free for other children or tasks is by babywearing!!!!!!! Soapbox lecture over now! Go hug your babies!

Moms not only CAN do anything, they have to do anything with baby on their back! Just because you have a baby now doesn’t mean that you get to stop doing the laundry, cooking, cleaning, or any of the other wifely duties you command! Strap baby on your back in an uber comfortable carrier to keep your hands free and get back to work!

Pay attention, friends, because there will be a test later!!!! See this GORGEOUS Girasol wrap??? I bought it for Baby #4 but ended up hiding it away in my stash because as a busy mom to many little ones, I never had the time to wrap it properly! As you know, time is limited as you watch your toddler sprint away naked down the sidewalk, and you need something QUICK to throw on! So, long story short, there it sat, unloved but very much appreciated until the day that Erin offered to convert it into one of her amazing Wrapstar Mei Tais!!! It’s not done yet, but when I show you pictures, think back to this blog post and remember how long my ER waited for its day in the sun!

Ever seen something so beautiful it took your breath away? Stopped you in your tracks? Made you double look?
The Beco 4th Generation was the first Soft Structured Carrier I had ever seen other than the Ergo, and it amazed me!!! The simple straps and inadvertent buckles didn’t detract from the beauty of the carier one bit, and the Echino fabric used on the Cocoa Butterfly 4th Generation was, in a word, PERFECT!
Don’t tell my husband, but I am now the proud owner of 2 of these beauties; that’s how these babywearing addictions go!
